Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety (OHS)

Introduction

The CPE Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety programme provides the basic knowledge and skills to enable competence in this field by covering the essential elements of Occupational Health and Safety management and practices. It is delivered through four individual courses each with a requirement of 30 contact hours. It is set within a framework of emerging “safety themes” in the context of the Caribbean region and emphasizes duty of care and precision and thoroughness in safety management. Students will be guided on how to develop procedures to control risks to safety and health while raising awareness and promoting good relationships to enhance health and safety within the organization.

Who is this programme for?

This programme is suitable for individuals who wish to enter into the field of occupational health and safety as well as individuals in this field who require formal training.   

Programme Structure

The programme consists of four courses. These may be taken together for the completion of the Certificate or participants may be permitted to complete any course for the award of the Continuing Education Units (CEUs).

Entry Requirements

Though there are no formal requirements, applicants are expected to possess basic oral and written communication skills. A working knowledge and/or experience in health and safety will be an advantage. Kindly contact an Open Campus Site location nearest to you for further information on the application process.  

Assessment Structure

A model of continuous in-course assessment will be applied to all courses within this programme. Students will be assessed at different intervals over the duration of each course which may include written examinations. Assignments may also include but are not limited to: case-based activities, practical assignments, presentations and other projects.
