The University of the West Indies (UWI) Open Campus is one of the four campuses that make up the pillars of The UWI, which was established in 1948. The institutionally accredited UWI serves the people of the region by offering higher, distance and continuing educational products, research and innovation and outreach services from all of its locations across the Caribbean region.
Multi-mode teaching approach
The Open Campus has developed a unique approach in the Caribbean region to enhancing the student experience in innovative continuing and professional education, undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing education study programmes and courses by distance, blended, online and face-to-face learning modes.
Three-tiered registration process
We offer a three-tiered registration structure to suit particular needs and educational backgrounds. The system allows our students to move and transfer within the entire University system to reach the required standard.
Within the region, The UWI Open Campus is simultaneously a virtual campus with nearly 50 physical site locations in 17 English-speaking Caribbean countries.

The Open Campus of the University of the West Indies believes that the high-quality university education, research and services available at our institution should be open and available to all people who wish to reach their full potential inside and outside of the Caribbean region. In addition to all our online and blended programmes, the Open Campus has almost 50 in-country site locations in 17 Caribbean countries. We offer more than 200 full academic programmes and numerous short continuing and professional education courses to over 20,000 students.
Accreditation
The leadership and staff of The University of the West Indies Open Campus were in celebration mood on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 04, when it was announced that the Campus has been reaccredited for seven years, the maximum period achievable.
The announcement was made by Chairman of the Board of Directors, Barbados Accreditation Council (BAC), Mrs. Margo Lady Ann Hewitt at a ceremony hosted at the Open Campus Headquarters in Barbados.
The accreditation team was very complementary of the Open Campus Self-Evaluation Report, describing it as “reflective and analytical and addressing the various challenges faced by the Open Campus.”
“The accreditation criteria and its standards are clearly met,” the accreditation team declared in its report.
