Meet the Team

Prof. Julie Meeks Gardner - Director

Julie Meeks Gardner is Professor of Child Development and Nutrition, and Director, Graduate Studies and Research of The University of the West Indies, Global Campus.  She trained at the Tropical Metabolism Research Unit, UWI, in human nutrition and child development, and did post-doctoral work at Cambridge University, at the MRC Applied Psychology Unit.  Prof Meeks Gardner has published widely in international research journals, and has authored and edited several book chapters and technical reports, books and monographs.  Among other honours for her work, she received the Vice Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Research and Public Service in 2012.  Prof Meeks Gardner serves on a number of Jamaican, Caribbean and International boards and committees.

Ms. Janet DeSouza - Senior Administrative Officer

Janet DeSouza joined The UWI Global Campus in 2009 as an Administrative Officer.  She  is a "planner extraordinaire", gifted with the ability to pull resources together  to ensure that projects are successfully completed on time.  She has a passion for people and has been integrally involved in a number of Global Campus staff activities to strengthen the bonds between the Global Campus staff members across the region. She completed a Master of Science in Human Resource Development at UWI, Mona in 2013,  and copped the Department of Sociology, Psychology and Social Work coveted MSc. Human Resource Development Prize two years in a row as well as the HRD Prize for Consultancy  - Performance Management in 2012. Charged with overseeing the Administrative portfolio in her new role in the SGSR, she will continue to guarantee and ensure that quality parameters are executed and maintained in an effort to create the best graduate student experience possible.

Mrs. Gillian Holder – Senior Assistant Registrar

Gillian Holder has a wealth of experience as a higher education administrator.  She has 29 years’ experience at The UWI and has led the Assessment, Awards and Records department in the Global Campus from its inception in 2008.  In 2014, Mrs Holder was the recipient of the Principal’s Award for Excellence in Service.  She holds a BSc. in Accounting with First Class Honours and a Masters in Project Management and Evaluation with Distinction from The UWI, Cave Hill.  Her areas of expertise are Student Administration, Project Management, Data Analytics, Business Process Reengineering and Evaluation of International Credentials and Validation of Qualifications.

Ms. Marcella Franklyn - Administrative Assistant

Marcella Franklyn is Administrative Assistant with responsibility for all graduate assessment matters.  She joined The UWI Global Campus in January 2017 and served in the Assessment, Awards and Records Department.  From mid-2018, she exclusively managed the graduate student assessment portfolio and will be continuing in this regard in the Office of Graduate Studies and Research.

Marcella holds a BSc in Accounting from The UWI, Cave Hill and an MA in Education from the University of South Wales.

Ms.  Ngozi Liburd – Secretary

Ngozi Liburd is the Secretary to the Senior Assistant Registrar, Graduate Studies and Research.  She has thirteen years work experience at The UWI Global Campus.  Prior to joining the Office of Graduate Studies and Research she worked in the Assessment, Awards and Records Department.  There, she garnered a wealth of knowledge on all aspects of the student lifecycle for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Mrs. Libby Martinez - Research Ethics Administrator

Mrs. Libby Martinez is an innovative business professional with over 20 years of administrative experience. Mrs. Martinez first started her career as an Administrative Assistant while completing her Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from the University of North Florida. After completing her studies, Mrs. Martinez returned home to Belize to work in the family business. Her tenure in the family business would see her work in various aspects of the business as Office Manager, Marketing Officer and Human Resource Manager, among other positions. She joined The UWI family in December 2012, where she worked as Senior Administrative Assistant at the Belize Site until her recent reassignment as Administrator to the Global Campus Research Ethics Committee in the School of Graduate Studies and Research.  Mrs. Martinez is currently completing her Masters of Science in Management Studies with The UWI, Global Campus.  Her professional interests include acquiring knowledge and exposure in the areas of Labour Relations and Public Sector Reform.
