The UWI Quality Policy: What it means for me! Student’s Perspective
H ave you ever vacationed at a luxurious hotel? Were you invited to evaluate that experience? Was the vacation a great one? Would you recommend that location as a place to stay? For The UWI, this new Quality Policy provides a method of monitoring and ensuring quality; in this context, you are either a student, stakeholder, alumni, academic staff or represent a faculty or department. The UWI commitment to excellence happens
in partnership with these stakeholders, who ensure that any interaction with The University conforms with the standards of this Policy and is guided by the concepts of quality: fitness of and for purpose, value for money, service excellence and transformative development of staff and students. This is further achieved by having checkmarks in place to: plan, implement, evaluate and improve UWI as a quality global product.
An institution that has merit is always guided by a Vision, Mission and Core Values, all of which are present in The UWI five year Triple A Strategy of Access, Alignment and Agility.
In particular, what The UWI Quality Policy means for me as a student is:
• Commitment to ensuring that the highest quality of education is provided
• Promotion of The UWI as a tool in advancing regional integration through diversity of well co-ordinated activities and programmes
• The use of technology and diversity of learning tools such as e-learning in promoting diverse learning tools
Mr. Don Roach Student

• Enhancement of infrastructure to facilitate a well architectured learning space
• The refinement of students through co- curricular activities, in producing a well- rounded individual
• A successful graduate easily recognised as a valued employee locally, regionally and globally
• The promotion of The UWI’s brand worldwide to attract more international students
• The diversity of the curriculum in reflecting the changing workforce
• A commitment by each student to The UWI’s realisation of the Vision, fulfilment of the Mission and maintaining of the Core Values
• A consistently applied system of evaluation in maintaining the highest accreditation standards and frequent communication among stakeholders
In essence, The UWI, as it celebrates its 70th Anniversary, continues to make strides throughout the Caribbean and the world. It is through instruments like The UWI Quality Policy that The University continues to enhance its product, offering its finest and its best to the region and the world.
