Tribute to PVC Dale Webber
It has always been a pleasure for me to interact with Professor Dale Webber as a colleague who not only understands the value of The UWI system of quality assurance but also articulates his appreciation. This continued to be evident in his capacity as Pro Vice Chancellor, Graduate Studies and Research. I have admired his affability and approachability and have been both motivated and inspired by his drive and energy. I feel certain that Professor Webber will continue to project these valued qualities in his new role as Principal of the Mona Campus to the benefit of staff and students and, indeed, The UWI as a whole.
Professor Webber, I extend to you my hearty congratulations and best wishes for success.
Sandra Gift, PhD – Quality Assurance Unit
One of the great privileges associated with the position of Pro Vice-Chancellor at The University of the West Indies is the opportunity to work closely with brilliant colleagues from across the University. One such colleague is Professor Dale Webber. Following his appointment as Pro Vice-Chancellor for Graduate Studies (later expanded to Graduate Studies and Research) in 2015, Dale and I worked closely together, as our respective positions required, both on aspects of teaching and learning and on academic quality assurance at The University of the West Indies.
This was much more than a marriage of convenience, however. I quickly found Dale to be the most congenial, constructive, and capable of colleagues, with a knack for cutting through to the core of an issue and finding workable solutions. Clear thinking and straight talking are not always easy to take when you are the one at the receiving end, but Dale’s jovial manner, consistently positive outlook, and obvious commitment to the best interests of The University in everything he does are a disarming combination.
Invariably, his special qualities have ensured a harmonious and highly effective working environment, and have helped us through some difficult and challenging times. I have no doubt that he will bring this unique combination of brilliance, problem- solving ability and charm to bear in his new position as Principal of the Mona Campus.
On behalf of all in OBUS, and especially my colleagues in the Quality Assurance Unit, I wish him every success in his new role.

Heartiest
my Culturian brother, Prof. Dale Webber. Dale has given yeoman’s service to The UWI and the Mona Campus over his three decades of interaction with the institution. He has championed significant developments in the administrative and academic processes at The UWI which are now bearing fruits. For example, he was instrumental in the development of the Mona Office of Research and Innovation, an institutional arrangement which has delivered significant grant funding to the Campus. He was also an exemplary supervisor, graduating over 60 students at the MSc and Doctoral levels.
As you continue the transformational journey started by your predecessors, please remember our Culturian Motto: G.U.T.S (Growing United to Success). I wish you well on this leg of the journey.
