As for most young Jamaicans. Especially in the academic tradition that is Munro College, The UWI was a natural progression for Carlton Lloyd Campbell. It was not the trauma of Hurricane
Gilbert in 1988 or the accolades of track and eld, football or hockey at which he excelled, nor his moderate academic undergraduate performance that was to de ne the eventual fate of this multi-talented individual. He will tell you it was the special attention and systems of the Residence Halls, in this case Chancellor Hall where he received the Outstanding Student Lion Award in 1991; the special sporting facilities and opportunities of the Sports Department which landed him The UWI Sportsman of Excellence in 1993; and the academic mentoring of dedicated lecturers that created his meteoric rise in the Jamaican environmental science arena to be the Managing Director of one of the most respected environmental companies in the Caribbean.
Earning a BSc in Geography and Zoology in 1992, it was the selective recruitment of Carlton which resulted in his receiving a Kaiser award in 1995 to read for an MPhil degree in Marine Sciences researching at the Discovery Bay Marine Laboratory. The entrepreneur in Carlton directed his path and after working with a few companies he decided to establish his own company, CL Environmental Co. Ltd., committed to sustainable development by furnishing all businesses and peoples with pragmatic solutions through the highest quality environmental
and technical services. Twice a UWI graduate, Carlton, knowing the importance of Education, pursued and received the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Environmental Biology at The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus (2014) researching noise in uences associated with the operation of a power generation facility.
Carlton Lloyd Campbell is an environmental scientist with over twenty ve years’ experience in environmental impact assessments both in the marine and terrestrial environments, environmental audits in the bauxite, sugar and chemical industries. He has also conducted numerous noise and indoor air quality assessments. Dr. Carlton Campbell (front row left in below) was featured in the 2016 Mona Campus Research Days as a three time UWI graduate where he demonstrated the value of his degrees and entrepreneurial conquest to Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the Mona Campus, Professor Archibald McDonald (front row Centre) and Pro Vice-Chancellor for Graduate Studies and Research, Professor Dale Webber.
