About Us

The University of the West Indies (UWI) is proud to be a part of the world-wide movement to improve the status of children and their families.

With the assistance of international development partners, such as the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, and UNESCO, CaribECD was established in 1999 and is maintained to serve the best interests of young children across the Caribbean region.

We make Caribbean-relevant information on early childhood development (ECD) readily available and help to strengthen regional cooperation within particularly within the English-speaking Caribbean.

Who We Are: Mostly, we are Caribbean-based individuals and organisations who recognise the vital importance of early childhood experiences, including; educators from the pre-primary to the university level, parents, practitioners, policy-makers, researchers, advocates and international colleagues and development partners.

Our Goal: Is to strengthen the Caribbean ECD network by sharing information, strategies, resources and facilitating exchanges on early childhood, child development, parenting and the family issues within the Caribbean. Changing conditions brought about by globalisation, information systems, environmental changes, social, political and economic transitions create new opportunities and challenges that require collective responses.

What we do: Together, we share a comprehensive vision of ECD in the Caribbean that is rooted in a child rights-based framework.
