The UWI Quality Policy –
What Does It Mean To Human Resources?
T he Quality Policy shows the commitment of The UWI in ensuring the delivery of high quality outputs, which are central to the development of our region.. It is commendable that The UWI is becoming more sensitive towards its stakeholders’ needs and expectations, through ensuring that all its processes are evaluated
and monitored.
As far as human resources are concerned, the Quality Policy should serve as a reference for staff in articulating their purpose and in helping them to understand how the quality of their individual contribution affects the overall output and, therefore, its importance to the success of The UWI. The five interrelated dimensions of quality articulated should open the doors for interrogation into the internal operations of The UWI and promote a culture of consistency and accountability. If the Policy is adhered to, it should drive continual improvement, innovation and promote best practices in human resources. Simultaneously, staff should adopt the attitude of lifelong learning and embrace the belief that improvement is always possible.
The UWI has been viewed by our governments and the region as a whole as the conduit for developing the “Ideal Caribbean Person”, who can influence the educational, social and economic outcomes in our various territories. The dimension of transformative development of students and staff mentioned in

the Quality Policy, and The UWI’s ability to contribute to the enhancement of their knowledge, skills and attributes, will be very important in creating that “Ideal Caribbean Person”. The quality of our internal operations will have a direct impact on that output and therefore it is timely that The UWI has invested in this Quality Policy.

To make sure that we achieve the promise of better quality through The UWI Quality Policy, we need to understand how you experience quality at The UWI right now! Please help us by completing the Quality survey; we will send a link to your e-mail. Do take the time to go to the survey page, complete and submit the survey. At the close of the survey we will simply do a draw based on the e-mail addresses of persons who submitted completed surveys and you may be one of those lucky enough to win one of the attractive prizes.
