Programme Summary

This continuing education certificate in Business Process Management is comprised of 120 contact hours programme geared towards equipping individuals with the foundational knowledge, skills, and competencies required to improving an organization’s end-to-end operational process. The programme seeks to enhance participants’ process-thinking capabilities to align the organizations’ resources with an efficient business model. The target group includes business owners, middle and top-level managers, and supervisory personnel from all industries and disciplines including manufacturing, wholesale/retail and service industries. Government, medical, legal, banking, utility, and hospitality services can also benefit from this programme. While the courses do not have any prerequisites, participants should have a general knowledge of the operations of their organization.

Programme Aims And Objectives

The aim of the programme is assuring business continuity by effectively managing the business process activities of the organization. Participants will enhance process-thinking capabilities, recognise deficiencies along the end-to-end operational process of their businesses, and become equipped with strategies for improvement and for optimum efficiency. The ultimate aim of this programme is learning strategies to ensure organizational profitability and sustainability.

While the courses do not have any prerequisites, participants should have a general knowledge of the operations of their organization.  A previous continuing education qualification in management studies would also be an asset.

Assessment Structure

Continual assessment will be the basis of each course in the programme. Each course will incorporate take-home assignments over the 10-Week duration. There will be a mid-term exam and a final project.


Course Of Study

Business Process Management and Culture: Participants will review a number of scenarios where culture influenced the general operations and productivity of a business. They will be exposed to strategies business leaders can utilise to positively influence the culture of his/her business and will be afforded the opportunity to examine these strategies in use in selected organizations. They will be afforded the opportunity to apply these strategies to a business of their choice through a series of exercises. 

Managing Risks and Threats: Participants will review types of risks and threats affecting business or organizational operations. They will be exposed to strategies for mitigating risks and averting threats in the business process. Participants will be afforded the opportunity to use analytical tools for analysing the propensity to experience risks and the threats his /her business is prone to.
 
Managing the Business Process: Analysis and Benchmarking: Participants will be afforded the opportunity to delve into Business Process Management (BPM) as a deliberate discipline to manage process improvement. They will be exposed to continuous improvement methodologies including process discovery, mapping and modelling, metrics, key performance indicators (KPI), collaboration, decision-making, and process monitoring. Participants will be afforded the opportunity to observe measurement and quantifying processes used for analysis and benchmarking and ultimately for maintaining productivity and increasing production levels. 

Technology and The Business Process: Students do not have to be technologically savvy to participate in this course. They will be exposed to current technological advancements enhancing the business process and will be afforded the opportunity to compare technology products and their capabilities. By examining the benefits and drawbacks of products, participants will be positioned to compare and contrast “process-centric” technology best suited for their organizations.
