PROGRAMME SUMMARY
This Continuing and Professional Education (CPE) programme in Finance for Decision-Makers is a 60 contact hour programme. It is geared towards equipping non-finance managers, employees and entrepreneurs with the essential knowledge, skills and competencies required to effectively and efficiently impact the financial and accounting decision making processes of their units, departments or small businesses. Upon completion, participants will have acquired a working knowledge of globally accepted and relevant financial management practices and their application that are essential for effective decision-making. While the content of this programme has been developed for employees and entrepreneurs that possess limited or informal financial training, participants are expected to be knowledgeable in basic mathematics, Microsoft Excel and using the internet. The course will be interactive and will require active involvement
PROGRAMME AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
This programme aims to provide relevant and practical training to improve the decision making process at the departmental and organizational level within the private and public sector. Upon completion participants will possess enough information to understand financial trends and the industry, as well as training to perform basic financial calculations and analysis.
Upon completion of the programme, participants should be able to:
- Perform basic calculations and analysis to inform financial decisions in the workplace
- Aware of all ethical standards, laws and regulations associated with the regional financial sector.
- Partake in discussions surrounding financial issues and contexts
- Contribute to the financial decision making process in their respective roles.
TARGET AUDIENCE
This programme is geared towards adult learners who are responsible for or contribute to decision making at the macro or micro level within their organisations. This programme is particularly well suited to entrepreneurs whose businesses have evolved out of specific abilities in a particular industry but whose academic or work experience has not included specific training in the fundamental elements of finance required to enable informed business decisions.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Participants should possess knowledge in basic mathematical calculations and concepts and have basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel. They must be open minded to new concepts while being interactive in the classroom environment.

ASSESSMENT STRUCTURE
Student’s progress will be evaluated via formative assessment to include multiple choice quizzes, and summative assessment to include case studies and projects.
EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES
Where appropriate, materials will be made available to learners online for download. Participants will be required to procure recommended textbooks using their own resources to acquire them via online or hard copy purchases. Handouts will also be provided to participants.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT ESSENTIALS: This course is designed to provide participants with an understanding of the principle philosophies, practices, skills and knowledge necessary to interact with the finance professional and sector. This will allow participants to improve the decision making process of their homes and employers. In addition, it shall explore foundational theoretical and practical skills needed for the efficient and effective interaction between the non-finance and finance professional or sector. Thus improving the outcomes of the decision making processes in their personal and professional spheres.
FINANCIAL ANALYSIS TECHNIQUES: This course is designed to provide participants with a greater understanding of the analytical requirements needed to make business and financial management decisions. Participants will be exposed to a variety of topics that relate to the analytical aspects of finance and business management. They will be afforded the opportunity to apply these analytical skills to their real world situations at work and at home.
