Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Tuition and Fees

The Schedule of Fees found on the GC website outlines the costs per course based on the degree level (undergraduate or postgraduate) and the number of credits per course (i.e. 3, 4, 6 or 9 credits).

To determine your total fees per semester, please carefully examine this document along with the Programme Advising document which outlines your courses and their number of credits.

You should NEVER make a payment towards your courses until you have completed registration and a Fee Assessment document is generated for you. You can download this as a PDF. It outlines all your fees and tuition for the given semester. You will repeat this process EVERY semester. You do NOT have to re-submit an application each semester. You are already a student smile All that is required is that you register for courses.

Visit Financial Information for more on Tuition and Fees>

For questions on all financial matters, please write to receivables.finance@open.uwi.edu.

  2. Course Exemptions for Credits Already Earned

Please note the following excerpt from page 37 of the 2021/22 Student Handbook.

“The granting of exemptions (and credits) for non-UWI programmes must be based on equivalency to courses in each degree option. If a course, already completed successfully, is the same as that to be pursued at a particular level, a student may receive exemption from that course. In keeping with The UWI’s policy, exemptions (and credits) will only be granted for courses that have been successfully pursued within the last five (5) years. Credit exemptions do not count towards the GPA.”

See the Handbook attached for further details.

The exemption requests forms and other important forms can be found on the Student Portal (log into the Portal, navigate to the Student Resources tab).

For guidance on exemptions and the process, please write to student.services@open.uwi.edu

If you are having challenges logging in, the first thing I suggest you do is to double-check that you are entering your ID and password correctly. Don't forget the exclamation mark in the password Remember:

    • the Student ID is the Student Registration Number you were provided in your Offer Letter, and
    • the password is a temporary password that is set to your birthdate in the format: MonthDDYYYY! (Example: January3082! would be if you were born 30 January 1982)
